Combating COVID-19 in Germany: Key Takeaways

As COVID-19 spread across Europe, countries like France, Italy, Spain and the U.K. faced high rates of cases, hospitalizations and deaths due to the virus. Germany, meanwhile, eluded similar levels of transmission and suffering among its citizens.

Germany’s success in avoiding a substantial first wave of COVID-19 cases was two-fold, explained immunologist and advisor to Chancellor Angela Merkel, Dr. Michael Meyer-Hermann, in an ICFJ webinar co-sponsored by the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship.
